There’s hardly a secret anymore that human behavior is highly influenced by colors. Based in Oshawa, a suburb of Toronto, artist Toni Hamel ( previously ) is concerned with human morality—or lack thereof. In her subtly hued artworks, Hamel portrays subjects in the midst of futile and trivial pursuits: children pluck stars from the night sky, a couple attempts to reconstruct a flower after its petals have fallen, and a young family literally watches wet paint dry. Many of the satirical pieces consider socially accepted anthropocentrism and the relationship people have with the surrounding environemnt.
Before you begin painting, spritz the back of your watercolor paper with water. This will help to keep the paper from buckling. Now paint over all of the hair with Aureolin Yellow, and while this is still wet “drop in” some Rose Madder Genuine. Tip and tilt your watercolor paper allowing the two colors to mix together. Before this is dry, “drop in” some Viridian Green and a little Cobalt Blue to your mid tone and darkest sections. Again allow the paint to mix and run on the paper. This is fun! Try to keep your highlighted spaces covered mainly in Aureolin and Rose Madder Genuine, as this portion of the hair will shine as if in sunlight. Let this dry.
Törner, who is the daughter of Swedish sculptor and illustrator Bernt Törner , grew up in an artistic household and learned to paint at a young age. In her own practice, she sketches the evocative animals directly on the front pages. Her technique includes a combination of blank ink, acrylics, and oil paints to complete the wild creatures.
Painting the wooden stairs and risers in a color that matches your home is one way of adding colors to the staircase. But, if you want to give it a unique look at affordable price, there are other options. For painting the stairs in vivid designs, choose a suitable color for the treads, risers and trims so that you enjoy a blank canvas for your art. You can use different wallpaper designs to cover the risers or paint a scenic path, waterfall design or a floral pattern on the stairs. Many homeowners use stencils, stamps and decals to write their favorite quote on the risers. If you want to create an illusion of a stair runner, paint can help you to create the same effect. It can be a great way of adding dimension to the stairs.
Preparing a room to paint will take at least half a day so ensure that you leave yourself adequate time to do this. The tasks that you will be performing on the day is removing any flaking paint or if the walls currently have wallpaper you will have to scrap the wallpaper off. Once the wallpaper or flaking paint has been removed as best as you can you should smooth over the walls using a sanding block in order to create the smoothest finish that you can. When you have smoothed your walls you may notice cracks or small holes have appeared in the plaster on your walls, if this is the case you will now have to fill these in. You need to ensure that the filler is completely dry before you start your paint job.
