When it comes to painting, artists have three choices: oil paints, water colors, and acrylics. Use painter’s tape to cover the trims and other areas that you do not want to paint. Bring out your brushes and rollers to begin the painting work. Start with the primer and let it dry. Then, apply a thin layer of paint. Remember that brushes will guarantee a cleaner look but you will have to be patient with it. Leave the first coat for 24-48 hours and begin with the second coat only when the first one is completely dry.

You do not need that many brushes for oil painting. I personally only use two types of oil painting brushes: flats and filberts of various sizes. I do have a few rounds and a fan brush on hand, but I almost never use them. I would also recommend that you use hogs hair brushes as opposed to the softer synthetic hair brushes. The synthetic brushes are just too flimsy to handle the oil painting medium in my opinion.

Glass is also an important consideration when framing a watercolor painting. Clear, non-glare, conservation, and plexiglass are all options. The choice between clear and non-glare glass I consider to be a personal preference. The conservation glass, although more expensive, does as the name implies; it best conserves your artwork. Discuss these types of glass with your framer. Often if the place where the painting will hang is known, one’s decision about glass type will be easier to make. It is not recommended to hang a watercolor painting in areas of high humidity (such as a bathroom, or near a stove top.) Also exposure to direct, prolonged sunlight is not recommended.

Paint color can have a greater impact on your house then you may realize. Just paint it a strange or very bold color and you will see the effect it has on everyone who sees it! The color of your exterior painting can make it look exciting, splashy, pleasing or depressing, boring or downright unappealing.
